Escanaba was known far and wide in its early days as a shopping and dining mecca of the Upper Peninsula. Ludington Street boasted 'over a mile of stores' and bustled with activity. Over time, influence from the Delta Plaza Mall (and much later, big box stores and online shopping) have worked to quiet this once busy downtown area.
